TRANSLATION AGENCY - HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Our translation agency: the foundations

From the four corners of the world

In 1988, Alexandre Crazover, who had a fascination for Asian languages and civilisation, took off for Shanghai to attend a training course.  On board the plane, he met Linlin Wang, a Chinese student at the HEC (Hautes Etudes Commerciales, a prestigious Paris business school).  During the flight they discovered that they shared an interest in business development. The following year on the campus of the ESPC (Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, a Paris business and management school of renown), Alexandre met Aly Pirbay, of Indian origin and then, while doing a course with L'Oréal, Kayo Hattori, from Japan.  His team was complete when he met Swiss Italian Didier Rosenberg.

The vision

At the end of 1999, Alexandre Crazover‘s intuition told him that the Internet in Asia represented a unique market, little exploited by European brands.  The team soon identified its niche, namely the translation and website localisation in Asian languages.  In the spring of 2000, Datasia registered its articles of association and signed its first contracts.

Luxury on the web

Our translation agency Datasia enabled famous French and European brands to position themselves on Asian markets by means of the web.  Success soon confirmed the founders’ intuition: prestigious brands such as Cartier, Lancôme and Chanel were already calling on Datasia’s skills and know-how.  The infant company hired staff, grew, developed and built up its various translation agencies.

A cultural melting pot

In 2002, Datasia began to diversify with the development of Internet sites in other uncommon languages, such as Korean, Russian or Arabic.
2002 also saw the birth of Datawords, a division specialising in the translation of European languages: English, German, Spanish, Italian, etc.
At the same time, Datasia was expanding its skills and know-how by adding desktop publishing (DTP) to website development.

International expansion

Since 2003, the translation agency Datawords has been able to localise all communications media – web, print, CD-ROM and so on – in a very wide range of languages.
In 2005, the founders moved on to a new stage with the opening of a translation agency in Hong Kong.
Offices in London and Düsseldorf were also opened.
Today, Datawords comprises 6 translation offices across three continents and has 85 staff of 22 different nationalities.  Average annual growth over the last 3 years has been 65%.
